What began with two long-time friends and six leased cars grew into the largest
Budget Car & Truck Rental licensee in New England with twelve locations in two states.

March 1977 - Open 1 month
Price per gallon of gas .56 cents

In searching for a rental location in 1977 we learned through the City of Nashua that
due to zoning regulations (at the time) we could only open a free-standing rental operation
in a GI district (General Industrial).  We found this building with a very small lot and
a railroad spur that shook the building several times a day when the train passed by.
Over the years we were able to expand by purchasing the gas station property (shown behind the
building in the photo), and then the railroad property (that ran just several feet to the left of
the photo.  There are two buildings on the property, one used for storage and this building
that continues to be our rental office to this day. The property now encompasses over
three quarters of an acre with over 600 feet of frontage on a main artery (Rte 111).   Again,
nothing fancy, but which enables us to give our customers great service.

L & R Rentals, Inc.

Opening day was February 1, 1977 and with much anticipation our first customer walked through the door.  Our first rental was the shiny new AMC Pacer,  part of six such new AMC's that comprised our entire rental fleet.  Our success was built upon hard work, exceeding customer expectations, and experience. We have offered the same service for over three decades and will continue to do so for many years to come.

1978
Price per gallon of gas .69 cents
Our rental fleet grew to 22 new cars, we added Chevrolet and Ford.

Our opening announcement.  The logo wasn't to company specs - but
it got the job done!

Spring of 1977 - open two months, big sign not in yet.  The two founders at the door.

We've seen many changes in the rental industry over the years.  The biggest changes being
computerization and the internet.  The industry now moves at the speed of light.  Rental Companies
have merged and true ownership is becoming a blur.  What stands out are those companies who
provide exception customer service.  Today, we do exactly what we did in 1977.  After all, as good as technology
can be, it takes people to make a good company.  We've been very fortunate over all these years to have
what we believe to be the very best customer service orientated individuals.  From our management to the front
counter, to those who service our vehicles, they are all focused on one thing - taking care of the customer.
